Our organization has researched and created various reports supporting and analyzing the case for frequent and affordable interregional transit on Vancouver Island. We have consistently found that transit is the most equitable and efficient form of improving transportation along the island corridor.
Frequent and Affordable Vancouver Island Bus Service
Backgrounder document outlining the rationale behind the push for convenient and inexpensive public transit connecting Central and South Vancouver Island.
More frequent and affordable bus services connecting South and Central Vancouver Island would help many travellers and communities, is far more cost effective, faster to implement, and provides more total benefits than other transportation improvement options. For these reasons, regional districts, BC Transit and MoTT should implement frequent and affordable bus service going forward.

Rethinking Malahat Solutions
A report evaluating the possible ways to improve travel over the Malahat Highway including roadway expansions, new bypasses and bridges, reestablishing rail, and improved bus service.
This analysis indicates that frequent and affordable bus service, with transportation demand management incentives, could attract 10-30% of trips, providing large reductions in traffic congestion, crashes, user costs and pollution on that corridor, and downstream. It is significantly cheaper and provides more benefits than alternatives. Frequent and affordable transit helps achieve social equity goals. In contrast, highway expansions are inherently unfair and regressive; they provide little benefit to non-drivers, and by inducing more vehicle travel they increase downstream traffic problems. More comprehensive analysis is needed to evaluate the full benefits of multimodal solutions such as frequent and affordable public transit.

Fulfill Your Promise
A short campaign document requesting the provincial government reallocate the funding for the Malahat Highway expansion through Goldstream Park to frequent and affordable transit between Victoria, Duncan, and Nanaimo.
The Fulfill Your Promise for Transit campaign asks the province to shift funds budgeted to expand the Malahat Highway through Goldstream Park – a project opposed by First Nations and environmental groups due to its risks and waste – and instead invest in frequent and affordable bus service connecting Victoria and Nanaimo. Public transit is a far better investment than highway expansions.
